What Are The Differences Between Hemp Oil And CBD Oil?

With cannabidiol (CBD) oils that can be found on many websites, hemp oils sold in supermarkets and very complex legislation that regulates cannabis in France and Europe, it is common to get lost. Although they both present very interesting virtues for the organism, they are nevertheless very different. To be able to take full advantage of their benefits, it is important to understand their differences. After explaining the differences between hemp oil and CBD oil, we will detail their main uses and their respective virtues.

1. The Differences Between Hemp Oil And CBD Oil

Their main difference is related to the manufacturing process. Indeed, although they both come from the same plant, from the Latin name Cannabis Sativa L, they do not come from the same parts of the plant. Hemp oil is a vegetable oil obtained from the seeds of the cannabis plant, called hemp seed, which are cold-pressed.

Unlike CBD oil, it does not contain active ingredients (phytocannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids). The latter, present in the stem and the leaves in very small quantities, are mainly found in the flowers and, more precisely in the trichomes, small microscopic cushions containing a viscous resin particularly sought after for therapeutic use. Unlike hemp oil, CBD oil is obtained by extraction. This complex process makes it possible to separate the active ingredients from the plant material. To obtain a maximum level of CBD, it is first necessary to select varieties whose chemotype is the most interesting; in our case, types with a high level of CBD and a low level of THC.

2.The Main Uses Of Hemp Oil And Its Virtues

Hemp oil, both used in cooking and cosmetics, can be used as a food supplement for its many virtues. It is considered a functional food or a super-food, that is to say, a food whose contributions exceed simple nutrition. It is rich in:

  • Carotene: has an antioxidant effect by capturing free radicals and therefore helps fight against cellular ageing.
  • Vitamin E: has an antioxidant effect similar to carotene.
  • Vitamins B1 and B2: participate in energy production, cell growth and promote the metabolism of carbohydrates (B1) and lipids (B2).
  • Hemp proteins: they are a source of protein, have an anti-fatigue and protective effect on the kidneys and improve immunity.
  • Omega 6 and 3 saturated fatty acids: they participate in the development and cell protection, in the functioning of the retina, the brain and the nervous system, provide an energy supply, promote the reduction of arterial hypertension and blood levels triglycerides.
  • Phosphorus: it ensures bone strength, participates in the storage and release of energy, and maintains the acid-base balance in the blood.
  • Potassium: it helps maintain pH balance, promotes good neuronal activity, bone and muscle health, increases cognitive functions and prevents the risk of stroke.
  • Magnesium: it encourages the formation of teeth, bones and their strength, prevents osteoporosis, muscle contraction disorders, cardiovascular risks (hypertension, atrial fibrillation, etc.), type 2 diabetes, as well as kidney stones, and stimulates the release of serotonin.

Hemp oil mainly contributes to the recommended daily needs. For example: in 100g of hempseed seeds, there is 77 to 80 mg of Vitamin E. The daily intake is around 12 mg per day. Finally, to preserve the virtues of hemp oil, it is not recommended to heat it.

3. The Main Uses Of CBD Oil, Its Virtues

CBD oil can be found in many products: sublingual oil, candy, chocolate, capsule or cosmetic cream. The mechanism of action of CBD is partly known to date. It interacts indirectly with the receptors of the endocannabinoid system (CB1 and CB2) and other receptors such as adenosine or serotonin, for example. This could explain why it is of interest to a large number of very diverse symptoms. Some of its medicinal applications have been scientifically proven in so-called RCT-type studies, i.e. double-blind, placebo-controlled and extended to the human model. Others have only been noted during so-called observational or anecdotal studies or even only tested on animal models. These are not enough to affirm the virtues of CBD and require more clinical research.

The properties proven and recognized to date in France are:

  • anticonvulsant: in pathologies such as epilepsy.
  • orexigenic and anti-emetic: in supportive care in oncology and palliative care.
  • action on spasticity: in pathologies such as multiple sclerosis
  • Properties that are not yet recognized in France and require further clinical trials:
  • neuroprotective: protective action on neurons and the degeneration of the nervous system: in the event of trauma or dementia-type pathology
  • psychiatric: anxiolytic, antipsychotic, antidepressant activity, against sleep disorders and in the treatment of addiction thanks to its so-called “anti-craving” effect.
  • anti-inflammatory: action on pain and pathologies of inflammatory origin such as Crohn’s disease.
  • antioxidant by capturing free radicals (unstable molecules that directly attack the body’s cells, promoting their ageing).
  • antibacterial.
  • use in asthma thanks to its bronchodilator effect.
  • use in Parkinson’s pathology by promoting dopaminergic balance in the brain.
  • use in osteoporosis by stimulating bone growth.

Finally, CBD oil also reduces the side effects induced by THC and particularly its intoxicating effect (“high”), tachycardia, and anxiety. It also helps to potentiate the benefits of THC, i.e. to strengthen its impact in pathologies such as multiple sclerosis.

In conclusion, hemp oil and CBD are very different because of their origin and their properties. Diluting CBD oil in hemp oil allows them to combine their virtues. So you can enjoy the superfood profile of hemp seed and the potential therapeutic benefits of CBD.
