Top 10 Antioxidant Foods

The antioxidants are molecules able to prevent the oxidation reactions of other molecules exposed to the action of free radicals.

High concentrations of these radicals can damage cell components (DNA, cell membranes, etc.).

It is for this reason that antioxidants have the ability to delay the wear and tear of the skin, organs and tissues.

Consuming them in our diet is key to good health and beauty, preventing premature aging of our cells and diseases of the nervous and cardiovascular systems.

Here is a key list of antioxidant foods to start the year by protecting yourself against free radicals:

Jewish

Beans are, of all legumes, the ones that contain the highest amount of antioxidants (and if they are red or black, better!). They also contain proteins, vitamins and minerals, and a lot of fiber.

Berry

Berries such as blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries and cherries contain antioxidant pigments called anthocyanins (to which they owe their red or purple color) that are capable of blocking the action of free radicals. They also protect against cardiovascular diseases and are useful for maintaining lynx eyesight.

Artichokes

It is the vegetable that has a greater amount of antioxidants: gallic acid, quercetin, cynarin, rutin, luteolin, anthocyanins. They prevent premature aging of our skin and are useful in the prevention of some types of cancers such as prostate and breast.

Nuts

Due to its high content of ellagic acid , vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids , the consumption of walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds and pistachios among many other nuts is associated with an improvement in cardiovascular health. They strengthen the immune system, prevent cognitive deterioration and improve the appearance of our skin.

Cocoa

Pure cocoa contains a large amount of procyanidin , a substance with great antioxidant power that has been shown to protect against cancer and cardiovascular diseases. It is also one of the most nutritionally complete foods.

Broccoli

Do not be fooled by its appearance as this vegetable contains more vitamin C than an orange. Apart from this contribution, it provides high levels of an antioxidant substance called sulforaphane, of which numerous studies show its role in the prevention of cancer.

Green Tea

It is the antioxidant drink par excellence due to its high content of polyphenols and catechins . These fight free radicals, helping to prevent cardiovascular diseases, cancer and skin aging.

Tomato

Tomatoes are the quintessential source of the antioxidant lycopene . It is important for its optimal absorption to combine it with a healthy fat, such as olive oil.

This substance is capable of neutralizing the oxidative action of free radicals, being useful in the prevention of heart diseases, some types of cancer (prostate, breast, lung, etc.) and in the prevention of premature aging of the skin.

Garlic

It is a food that acts as a natural antioxidant thanks to allicin , an anticancer substance that also stimulates the immune system (and gives it that characteristic taste and smell). If since time immemorial medicinal properties have been attributed to it, it will be for a reason.
