The new hype among people who want to lose weight: A drink with apple cider vinegar and ginger! But does the trend drink called “Switchel” really melt the pounds?
Americans who want to lose weight have sworn by Switchel for a long time. Now the miracle soda has also arrived. What’s unique about the drink? His ingredients! The super combination of apple cider vinegar, ginger, and lemon is supposed to boost the metabolism properly, quench hunger and thus help you lose weight. The trend drink is also the ideal thirst quencher on warm summer days.
But does that work? Can Switchel, as is often claimed, help with weight loss? We’ll tell you what the drink can do and how you can easily make it yourself at home.
By the way: Even if Switchel is currently extremely hyped – the apple cider vinegar drink is not new. The apple cider vinegar, ginger, and lemon mix have been known since the 17th century and were used primarily as a cheap soft drink for farmworkers.
So what exactly makes the Switchel limo so unique? The highlight at the Switchel is the apple cider vinegar. It has long been considered an insider tip for losing weight. In contrast to other types of vinegar, apple cider vinegar is an essential food that positively affects our acid-base balance. And a healthy acid-base balance is a prerequisite for a normal metabolic process.
Apple cider vinegar also stimulates the formation of digestive juices, which means that toxins and waste products are better removed from the body. But that’s not all: Apple cider vinegar is also said to lower cholesterol, protect against diabetes and regulate blood sugar levels, which prevents food cravings.
However, the effects of apple cider vinegar have not been scientifically proven. The Food Safety Authority (EFA) concludes that there is no evidence for the alleged effects of apple cider vinegar. Only animal experiments showed that acetic acid has a positive impact on the metabolism of overweight rats. However, whether this effect can also be transferred to humans remains unclear and whether weight loss occurs.

Not only is apple cider vinegar an essential part of the diet drink, but ginger and lemons are also said to have a positive effect on weight loss. Ginger contains capsaicin and gingerol, which trigger a heat stimulus when eaten due to their sharpness. The result: We start to sweat, the body gets better blood flow, and the metabolism is activated. And that in turn burns calories and excess body fat.
The antioxidants contained in ginger also ensure a robust immune system. The same applies to the lemon juice contained in the Switchel soda.
Tip:
In summer, Switchel tastes best with ice cubes and a few leaves of fresh mint. In winter, the drink can also be enjoyed warm. One thing is sure: nobody will lose weight just by drinking Switchel. A diet always includes a balanced diet and sufficient exercise, as recommended by the Society for Nutrition. However, ginger and apple cider vinegar soda can be drunk to support a long-term change in diet.
