Pollen Allergies: Natural Remedies To Stop Them

Pollen allergy is a seasonal allergy, with its well-defined symptoms (as we will see), and is caused precisely by pollen in the air. Those pollen for plants mean life and reproduction: these tiny particles, once released by the plants, go to deposit on other plants or the ground and start the reproduction process. In the meantime, however, the pollen has come into contact with the mucous membranes of the person suffering from allergy and has created the consequent problems. Pollen comes from plants and flowers and trees, grass, and mushrooms.

It is the grasses and the most common weeds containing the most common allergens. Whenever our body comes into contact with these allergens, it reacts by putting its defense mechanisms that involve the nose and eyes in the case of seasonal allergies.

The most apparent symptoms of pollen allergy are:

  • Frequent and recurring sneezing
  • Tearing
  • A runny nose
  • Itchy nose and eyes
  • Conjunctivitis
  • Dyspnea, i.e. difficulty in breathing regularly

To certify the allergy, it is possible to perform a skin test, preferably between September and October, to identify precisely the pollen you are allergic to. Once you are sure you are allergic, it is good to contact a specialist who can recommend the proper remedy immediately.

However, most allergic people underestimate the disorder and rely on self-medication drugs, which can be purchased at pharmacies without any prescription. And this is a mistake not to be made.

Symptomatic drugs (for example, antihistamines and cortisone) relieve symptoms but do not prevent allergy. They also have significant contraindications and are generally recommended for use for limited periods. All good reasons to rely on the guidance of the specialist and not the do-it-yourself doctor Google: diagnosis, before any possible therapy, is essential.

Natural Remedies Against Chicken Allergies

Don’t panic, though: surviving the spring is possible. In addition to the proper medications recommended by your doctor, here are some simple tips to contain symptoms even on a sunny and windy day :

  • Wash your eyes often with cold water, and before going to sleep, make compresses using a piece of cotton soaked in chamomile and rosemary infusion.
  • Keep doors and windows closed when the amount of pollen in circulation is high, especially at night and early in the morning.
  • Upon awakening, cover the bed with a sheet to prevent pollen from settling on blankets and pillows, then trigger allergic crises at night.
  • Avoid leaving the house when the temperature rises because the heat favors pollen released into the air.
  • Go for walks after a rainy day because the water breaks down all the pollen in circulation.
  • Avoid smoky environments because the mucous membranes of the nose and eyes become even more irritated.
  • Let the air circulate in the house, but do not overdo the obsession with home hygiene. The atmosphere in the house is poisoned with volatile particles that come from detergents and the like. Hence the risk of respiratory allergies.
  • On the contrary, cats and dogs help. Their allergens engage the immune response and reduce the risk of allergies.
  • Finally, the diet: in 20-25% of cases, pollen allergy also means allergy to some plant foods. These fruits and vegetables have an allergenic relationship with the offending plant. Ingesting these foods can cause reactions a few minutes later with mouth discomfort and later in other locations. This is why it is essential to know the allergy to the type or species of plants to avoid harmful foods. For example, in case of allergies to birch trees, they should be avoided: apples, pears, medlars, peaches, cherries, plums, dried fruit, kiwis, carrots, celery, fennel, parsley, soy and broad beans. In allergy to composites: banana, chestnuts, chicory, dandelion, lettuce, celery, parsley, carrot, fennel, sunflower oil, margarine, tarragon, chamomile, sunflower honey, dandelion honey. Finally, for the grasses: kiwi, watermelon, peach, plum, citrus, melon, apricot, cherry, almond, and tomato. In general, it is advisable to consult with an allergist doctor or a nutritionist for the diet’s definition to avoid nutritional imbalances or deficiencies.

Pollen Allergy In Children

Suppose your children suffer from the unwanted effects of allergies. In that case, we offer you a handy handbook to help you deal with the situation in the correct way and alleviate the discomfort that the season causes to your little ones:

  • Teach children the importance of washing their hands while avoiding contact with the eyes so as not to cause itching and inflammation.
  • In spring, wash your baby’s hair more often: pollen can get trapped in the hair and settle on the pillows.
  • When traveling by car, no to open the windows. If you are a lover of bicycles or scooters, protect your little passengers’ eyes, noses, and mouths.
  • Decorate your home without rugs, carpets, and curtains quickly accumulate dust and pollen. Soft toys are also banned for this period.
  • I prefer indoor sports (swimming pools and gyms).
  • Wash your house often: in particular, pollen particles are deposited on floors. Avoid ventilating the rooms during the hottest hours.
