How To Stop Having Dry And Chapped Lips? Natural Remedies

Less irritating than the sticks and lip balms available on the market, the ingredients of natural origin are just as effective in keeping your mouth well-hydrated in winter. Honey, shea butter, aloe vera, almond or coconut oil… all have moisturizing properties that work wonders. Discover our grandmother’s remedies for dry or chapped lips.

The cold can be an ally of the skin: it promotes blood circulation, naturally increasing the skin’s firmness and tone. But it can also cause dry skin in many people, especially during winter and on the lips, one of the most sensitive areas of the face.

Why Do I Have Chapped Or Very Dry Lips During The Winter?

The skin of the lips is thin. In winter, this sensitive area is exposed to external aggressions: the cold, the wind, etc., which all promote its drying out. Other environmental factors can aggravate this dryness: pollution, tobacco, sunlight, medication, alcohol, and food… This feeling of dryness often prompts us to moisten our lips with our tongues. But this nasty reflex increases cracking, tightness, and tingling. Indeed, saliva moisturizes at the time but dries out the lips.

Symptoms that are common but can evolve into cracks are conducive to the proliferation of certain bacteria, such as herpes. We also do not support chemicals such as paraffin, a petrochemical present in many sticks and balms sold on the market. The solution, therefore, lies in hydration by drinking water all day and in products of natural origin that protect our lips without damaging them.

How Do You Moisturize Your Lips In Depth With Home Care?

Some natural products are true allies of hydration. This is particularly the case with certain vegetable oils (almond oil, coconut oil, argan oil, avocado oil, etc.), shea butter or beeswax, which all have moisturizing properties. You can put them together and create a homemade treatment you will take everywhere this winter.

Almond oil moisturizes the skin, and beeswax, which can be replaced with shea butter, will form a protective film that will prevent moisture from escaping too quickly. Warning: if you are allergic to pollen or have an atopic tendency, it is recommended not to use bee products, which may contain allergens.

Mix beeswax and organic almond oil in equal amounts in a saucepan over low heat. Once fluidized, pour them into a small airtight jar and keep it handy on your bedside table to apply a dab morning and evening on your lips. You can also use argan oil, which is rich in vitamin E, antioxidants and healing.

Coconut Oil, The Star Natural Solution For Hydration

Coconut oil provides lipids and intensely nourishes the skin. Take advantage of this essential vegetable oil’s healing, emollient, softening, moisturizing, and restorative properties by keeping a small jar on your desk or near the sink. Throughout the day, every time you wash your hands, apply a little oil to your mouth.

Is Honey Good For Repairing Chapped Lips?

If your lips are in really bad shape and need a boost to repair themselves, opt for a double treatment based on honey and oil instead. Emollient honey retains the hydration naturally present in the epidermis. It will work wonders on your lips and be one of your best allies against dry or chapped lips this winter.

How To Use It Against Chapping

Apply a thin layer of honey to your lips, let it act for a quarter of an hour, trying to resist the temptation to lick it off, then rinse with lukewarm water.

Then go to the hydration step with a layer of vegetable oil ( castor or olive) and leave for an hour before rinsing. Velvet lip effect guaranteed!

Exfoliation Once A Week

Another tip, preventive this time: make a homemade scrub with sugar and honey once a week or once every two weeks. This simple gesture will hydrate the skin, remove dead skin, and heal and soften the lips. Mix a little honey and sugar to do this, then gently massage your lips with light circular movements.

What To Put On Damaged, Chapped Lips With Cracks?

Aloe vera gel is a good remedy for burns and bowel problems. With anti-inflammatory and healing properties, this succulent plant can absorb humidity from the air around it. It deeply nourishes the lips and protects them from irritation and external aggressions. Applied to the lips, the aloe vera gel allows them to be moistened and easily repaired in the event of cracks or cracks.

You can also put a little Vaseline on very damaged lips. Very greasy, petroleum jelly has emollient properties, perfectly moisturizes the driest skin and repairs chapping and cracks. Apply a thick layer before letting it sit overnight. Be careful; if the cracks and cracks appear at the corners of the lips, accompanied by redness, oozing or crusting, it may be angular cheilitis. This pathology, manifested by ulceration of the corner of the lips, is caused either by an infection of the bacterial origin or by a mycosis. In the case of an infectious cause, treatment includes a targeted antibiotic or antifungal cream.
