Do Hair Masks Stimulate Hair Growth?

Thick, long, lustrous hair is what everybody desires, but sadly only a few have it. You are here probably because your hair is thinning. Maybe you have been noticing it for a while; perhaps the hair fall has just started. No matter what the time of day, you must be having only one thing in mind: How to stimulate hair growth?

When your hair doesn’t get proper nourishment and care, it gets dry and tends to fall faster than it can grow. This means you need to provide moisture to your scalp and improve your strands’ condition, which can be achieved only by a hair mask.

It is just like your face mask, except for your hair. You might have seen several products in the market claiming to offer 97-99% effective results in just one application. But the truth is, there is no overnight solution to promote hair growth. You need to be consistent with your hair care regime.

Benefits of hair masks

There are several benefits of applying a mask to your hair. However, the advantages vary depending on its ingredients and your hair type. In general, its benefits include:

  • Give moisture to your hair and scalp
  • Provide shinier and softer hair
  • Significantly reduce hair breakage and damage
  • Make your scalp healthy
  • Make your hair less frizzy
  • Promote hair growth
  • Strengthen your follicles
  • Make your hair stronger and thicker

How do hair masks improve the condition of your hair?

Frequent use of heating tools, harsh chemical products, coloring agents, and, of course, environmental pollution are the main culprits that snatch away the moisture and nutrition from your hair and make them breakable, damaged, frizzy and unmanageable.

When you apply a mask on your hair, it penetrates deep into the roots of your follicles, provides moisture and nutrition to your damaged hair and revives their natural shine, sheen, and growth.

Masks have shown proven results in taming unruly hair, repairing frizziness, and moisturizing them to the core. You can think of them as intensive hair conditioners.

However, the primary difference between them is that these masks carry a much more intense level of moisture content and protein than the hair conditioners. Hence, don’t just make your hair lustrous, but also voluminous, thick, and stronger.

How often do you need to apply a mask to your hair?

Well, this entirely depends on your hair condition- how frizzy or damaged they are, how much intense care they need, and the volume of your hair. Depending on your hair’s need, you can use a hair mask once a week, once a month, or as often as you wish. In general, for the most effective result, it is advisable to apply it twice or thrice a week.

There are different types of natural hair masks online- some are used in the bath or shower, while others are formulated to be kept overnight. Therefore, before you apply a mask, go through the instructions carefully. Make sure you don’t sleep with the one that is supposed to be used in the shower.

How to apply a hair mask for better results?

First, rinse your hair thoroughly. It would be best to shampoo your hair twice. Once you are done, apply the hair mask starting from roots to tip and leave it for 30-60 minutes for the best results and then rinse with water and a mild shampoo if needed.

Remember not to use a hairdryer for drying your hair. Avoid heating products like hair dryers, trimmers, etc., as much as possible. The last piece of advice for you is when choosing a mask for your hair, don’t forget to consider your hair type and your specific hair problem.
